because I was not cut off before the darkness, neither hath He covered the darkness from my face.

But I am not silenced by the darkness [of these woes that fell on me], Nor by the thick darkness which covers my face.

Yet I am not destroyed by the darkness, by the thick darkness that covers my face.
Still I’m not annihilated by darkness; he has hidden deep darkness from me.
Yet I am not cut off by the darkness; he has protected me from the deepest gloom.
God has covered me with darkness, but I refuse to be silent.
Because I was not cut off before the darkness, neither hath he hidden the gloom from me.
For I have not perished because of the darkness that hangs over me, neither hath the mist covered my face.
What has happened to me is like a dark cloud over my face. But the darkness will not keep me quiet.
Because of all my troubles, I seem to be in a very dark place. The darkness seems to cover me. But I will not be afraid to speak.
Nevertheless, I am not silenced by the darkness, by the dark cloud that covers my face.
yet I am not silenced because of the darkness, nor because thick darkness covers my face.
yet I am not silenced because of the darkness, nor because thick darkness covers my face.
But I am not ·hidden [silenced] by the darkness, by the thick darkness that covers my face [C though afraid, Job still seeks to set God straight].
For I am not cut off in darkness, but he hath hid the darkness from my face.
But I am not silenced by the dark or by the thick darkness that covers my face.
Almighty God has destroyed my courage. It is God, not the dark, that makes me afraid— even though the darkness has made me blind.
Yet I am not destroyed by the darkness, by the thick darkness that covers my face.
But I am not cut off by the darkness, by the thick darkness that covers my face.
Nevertheless, I haven’t been silenced because of the darkness, even when thick darkness obscures my vision.”
Why was I not cut off before the darkness, neither has he covered my face with the darkness.

Indeed, I have not been silenced because of darkness, and because of me he conceals thick darkness.
God has given me a fainting heart; he, the Almighty, has terrified me with darkness all around me, thick, impenetrable darkness everywhere.
“But he is singular and sovereign. Who can argue with him? He does what he wants, when he wants to. He’ll complete in detail what he’s decided about me, and whatever else he determines to do. Is it any wonder that I dread meeting him? Whenever I think about it, I get scared all over again. God makes my heart sink! God Almighty gives me the shudders! I’m completely in the dark, I can’t see my hand in front of my face.”

Yes, would that I had vanished in darkness, hidden by the thick gloom before me.
But I am not destroyed by darkness, Nor by deep gloom which covers me.

For darkness hides me from him, and obscurity veils his presence from me.
But I am not hidden by the darkness, by the thick darkness that covers my face.
Yet I have not been silent because of the darkness, because of the thick darkness that covered my face.
But even the darkness of death won’t make me silent. When the darkness of the grave covers my face, I won’t be quiet.
Yet I am not silenced by the darkness, by the thick darkness that covers my face.

Because I was not cut off from the presence of darkness, And He did not hide deep darkness from my face.
But I am not made quiet by the darkness or the deep shadow which covers my face.
Darkness is all around me; thick, impenetrable darkness is everywhere.
If only I could vanish in darkness, and thick darkness would cover my face!

Yet I am not silenced because of the darkness, nor by the thick darkness that covers my face.”
He could have turned me aside when the darkness came, but He did not cut me off. Nor does He hide my face from the gloom that has now overtaken me.
Because I was not cut off before the darkness, neither did he cover the thick darkness from my face.
Certainly I perished not for darknesses nighing to me; neither mist covered my face. (For I did not perish because the darkness nighed to me, nor because the mist covered my face.)
For I have not been cut off before darkness, And before me He covered thick darkness.
